From the Jácara to the Sarabande
(Ana Yepes)

Presentation of the different Jácaras choreographies (only word descriptions) from the Spanish sources (c. XVIIth & XVIIIth century) and comparison between the steps and the space and arm indications. Explanation of its basic rhythm and musical pattern. Comparison with the rhythm and musical pattern of the Sarabande as found in France in the XVIIIth century, as well as with some Flamenco dances like Bulerías, Alegrías and Soleá. Overview on arm indications for the bailes, and the differ­ences between “danza” and ”baile”.

Ana Yepes, Paris, France:

Dancer, choreographer, teacher, dance historian. She obtained the Diploma of Early Dance teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and Deug at the Sorbonne, in Paris. She teaches regularly in Europe, North and South America, and Japan. She has collaborated as a dancer and choreographer with the Opéra National de Paris, Opéra de Montpellier, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Royal Danish Opera, The Royal Opera, New York City Opera, The Liric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Les Arts Florissants, Ris et Danceries and the Yepes Trio among others.
