The "Simultaneous Translation" Project
Over the years, the Symposium has been becoming constantly more international. For this reason, a large portion of the contributions are currently being given in English. For non-native speakers, this can be a great strain, particularly in the lectures.
We have therefore initiated the “simultaneous translation” project:
→ Simultaneous translation into German and English
For the first time, a simultaneous translator will be providing support during lectures. She will translate in both directions, so both English and German native speakers will benefit in the same way.
→ Reception on smart phones/radio
The voice of the translator will be transmitted in the lecture theatre in two forms: via Wi-Fi and on a VHF radio frequency. Conference participants can access the Wi-Fi on their smart phones using a free app or can receive the VHF radio frequency on a radio device (e.g. mobile telephone with integrated VHF radio). Participants will be given precise technical information in good time before the beginning of the Symposium. Please note: a headset/earphones are obligatory!
→ Realised thanks to the Dance & History e.V. and IHDP
A member of the Dance & History e.V. works voluntarily for us as our chief technician and has developed specially for this project, using his own devices, a high-performance translation transmission network. The costs for the translator will be borne by the Dance & History e.V. and the "Institute for Historical Dance Practice", Belgium (director: Lieven Baert). Our heartiest thanks go to our chief technician and to the two organisations!
